The Game Awards 2024: Everything Announced

Whilst the Game Awards is intent on celebrating the vast array of talent within the gaming industry, 2024's award show was overflowing with trailers for upcoming games and world premiere announcements. Developers showed many new games at this year's award show. In this article, we will share everything announced, from DLCs to sequels and brand-new IPs to unexpected returns of beloved franchises. Here is everything shown at the Game Awards 2024.

Ninja Gaiden: Ragebound — 2025

The last Ninja Gaiden game was Yamba: Ninja Gaiden Z in 2014. That game received poor reviews from critics, and new entries have become a thing of the past until now. Ninja Gaiden: Ragebound is returning to the franchise's roots with its side-scrolling 2D gameplay. Ninja Gaiden has always been a series with a high difficulty curve. The Game Kitchen, developers of Blasphemous, will be bringing their experience of challenging side-scrolling to the series.

One Move Away — 2025

Reminiscent of the indie hit Unpacking, One Move Away is a game about packing your car with belongings as you move house. Like Unpacking, the game features different levels spanning several years, telling a unique story based on what items you sort and pack into your vehicle.

Slay the Spire 2 — 2025

Revealed earlier this year, we now have a trailer showing off the rogue-like deck-building gameplay with which we all fell in love. Showcasing four different character types and satisfying, strategic gameplay, Slay the Spire 2 is coming to early access on Steam in 2025.

Dave the Diver: In the Jungle — 2025

Dave the Diver is back with a new expansion that sees the character enter the jungle. We only saw a cinematic trailer, but In the Jungle will be released late next year.

Thick as Thieves — 2026

OtherSide Entertainment has revealed its first game, Thick as Thieves. Directed by Warren Spector (known for his work on System Shock, Deus Ex and Thief: The Dark Project), Thick as Thieves is a first-person multiplayer game where you play as a thief and attempt to steal highly valuable treasures. Play as different character types and compete online to steal and earn the most money. The game is coming to PS5, Xbox and PC in 2026.

Shadow Labyrinth — 2025

What if Pac-Man became evil and transformed into a Metroidvania game? The answer may be Shadow Labyrinth. This intriguing-looking platformer has a dark, creepy art style. It will be released next year.

Steel Paws — 2025

Netflix Games has taken inspiration from Mega Man's character designs and added a Romanesque setting. Yu Suzuki is the leader behind Steel Paws the acclaimed creator behind Shenmue and Virtua Fighter (more on this series soon). There was no gameplay at the Game Awards, but Steel Paws is coming out next year.

Kyora — Coming Soon

Kyora is a delightful-looking pixel art game from Pugstorm, the developer of Core Keeper. The trailer contained only a few seconds of gameplay and no confirmed release date.

Rematch — 2025

Sloclap, the developers behind Sifu, have altered everyone's expectations by making their next game an online multiplayer with football. The game's virtual reality aesthetic and cartoon art style are great, but in a world where football has become one of the most over-saturated topics in gaming, the trailer did not convince me on this one. Rematch is coming to PS5, Xbox and PC next year.

Solasta 2 — 2025

Dungeons & Dragons made a video game revival last year with Baldur's Gate 3, and now we have the sequel to 2021's Solasta: Crown of the Magister. Featuring D&D's d20 game system, Solasta 2 also features Amelia Tyler, the narrator from Baldur's Gate 3. The game enters early access in 2025.

The Witcher IV — Coming Soon

It's a long overdue announcement, but The Witcher IV now has a cinematic trailer. Geralt is noticeably absent from this trailer; Ciri is at the forefront, honing her skills against monsters within CD Projekt Red's acclaimed world. There is currently no release date for The Witcher IV.

Elden Ring: Nightreign — 2025

In this upcoming spin-off, you will traverse the Lands Between through co-op. According to Geoff Keighley, this game is not a sequel to Elden Ring; it's a standalone multiplayer experience and will be a co-op survival game. Elden Ring: Nightreign is coming in 2025.

Final Fantasy VII Rebirth — Coming to PC, January 23rd 2025

Game of the Year nominee Final Fantasy VII Rebirth is coming to PC next month.

Catly — Coming Soon

Catly is a very strange-looking game. Euphoric in its visual style and very impressive in its character models, Catly is a game featuring cats. Oddly, the game is coming to PC, Nintendo Switch and… Apple Watch. How an Apple Watch can run this game remains to be seen, but more news about the game will come next year.

Project Robot — Coming Soon

This one got me excited! Fumito Ueda, the genius behind Shadow of the Colossus, Ico and The Last Guardian, has finally announced his newest creation. While the game does not yet have an official title, Project Robot is its title online. Shadow of the Colossus is one of my favourite games, so I am intrigued.

The Outer Worlds 2 — 2025

It is hard to believe that The Outer Worlds was released five years ago! Now, Obsidian is back with a sequel. News of The Outer Worlds 2 first came in 2021 during Xbox and Bethesda's Games Showcase. Because Xbox is the publisher, seeing The Outer Worlds 2 coming to PS5 was a surprise. Other Xbox games, like Senua's Saga: Hellblade II, may have a chance at a PS5 release. Before that, The Outer Worlds 2 is coming to PS5, Xbox, and PC in 2025.

Split Fiction — March 6th, 2025

There were a handful of announcements that got me excited, and this was one of them. Hazelight Studios is one of my new favourite developers, and It Takes Two is one of my favourite games of this decade. Their latest game, Split Fiction, is everything I could have wanted. It has the same split-screen co-op gameplay as It Takes Two and A Way Out, but the level of creativity and variety in this game could overtake the high acclaim of It Takes Two. Split Fiction releases for PS5, Xbox and PC in March 2025.

Steel Hunters — Beta Open Now

Steel Hunters is a free-to-play game from Wargaming, the developers behind World of Tanks. Giant mechs, different teams, units to play, and high-octane gameplay are at the forefront of this title. Steel Hunters beta is now available for the next week, and the whole game will be released soon.

The Long Dark 2: Blackfrost — 2026

A sequel to The Long Dark, The Long Dark 2: Blackfrost promises the same survival sandbox style fans have loved but adds new areas and co-op to the equation. The developers are the same team as the original game and will enter early access in 2026.

Borderlands 4 — 2025

Borderlands was one of the most unique first-person shooters at its release, mainly due to its incredible art style. Borderlands 4 promises to capitalise on the capabilities of current hardware to deliver the best series experience so far. Ithas no official release date but will be released sometime in 2025.

Tekken 8 — Clive Rosfield Added to Roster

Final Fantasy XVI's Clive Rosfield is now available to play as in Tekken 8. Winner of this year's Best Fighting Game at the Game Awards, Tekken 8 is the best entry to the series in years, and you can now play as a beloved character from the world of Final Fantasy.

Splitgate 2 — 2025

Splitgate is a first-person shooter released in 2019. After six years, a sequel is in development. This game will introduce new modes, including a new three-team battle mode. Splitgate 2 will release in 2025.

Virtua Fighter — Coming Soon

Wow! A series I did not see making a return was Virtua Fighter. The last mainline Virtua Fighter game was Virtua Fighter 5, released in 2007 on the Xbox 360. Ryu Go Gotoku, the developer of Like a Dragon, is helming this game, and more news will be forthcoming soon.

Project Century — Coming Soon

Yet another game in development from Ryu Go Gotoku. Project Century is not yet confirmed to be a part of the Like a Dragon series. Still, the game is set in 1915 Japan and features the signature fist-fighting gameplay that the developers have mastered. More news about Project Century will come in the future.

Turok Origins — Coming Soon

One of the earliest first-person shooter franchises, Turok, started life on the Nintendo 64. Over the years, the series has dropped in relevance; the last game was Turok: Escape from Lost Valley in 2019, later delisted in 2022. Before that, the previous Turok game was in 2008. Turok: Origins serves as the series' grand return. Whether this game is a sequel or a remake is not yet confirmed, but more news will come.

Warframe 1999 — Available Now

The newest update for Warframe is now available.

Palworld — New Update Coming on December 23rd, 2024

Despite the controversy and current legal battles, Palworld is getting a new update called Feybreak, which will be available next week.

Onimusha: Way of the Sword — 2026

Another series making a grand return is Onimusha. The last Onimusha game was a remaster of the original PS2 game in 2018. The last mainline game was Onimusha: Dawn of Dreams, released on the PS2! Capcom has been hitting home run after home run the past few years, and I am excited to see Onimusha making a return in 2026.

The First Berserker: Khazan — March 27th, 2025

While we did not see any gameplay for The First Berserker: Khazan, this fantasy RPG looks heavily inspired by Dark Souls and Sekiro. It is coming to PlayStation, Xbox, and PC in March next year.

Dying Light: The Beast — 2025

Revealed in August, Dying Light: The Beast is a standalone entry of the successful action/adventure series. Kyle Crane has beast-like abilities (hence the game's title), and get ready to battle zombies and take revenge when this game releases next year.

Stage Fright — Coming Soon

Split Fiction was not the only split-screen co-op title at the Game Awards. Ghost Town Games, the team behind the Overcooked series, is back with a new co-op game. Stage Fright has a beautiful art style and features brilliant British voice acting; that alone sold me on this game.

Game of Thrones: Kingsroad — 2025

I am figuring out what to make of this. I was a Game of Thrones fanatic when the series was in its prime. After the disappointing conclusion, I lost all interest in the show. Despite the returning characters and actors, this game did not impress me. My reception may change, but I doubt it.

The Last of Us Part II: Remastered — Coming to PC on April 3rd, 2024

For the love of God, I got my hopes up for a second. When I saw the Naughty Dog logo, my heart skipped a beat. Then the disappointment kicked in; yet another Sony exclusive is heading to PC next year. Despite the controversy and mixed fan reception, The Last of Us Part II is a great game. It's not a 10/10, but it's still a great game. The Last of Us Part II: Remastered will come to PC in April next year.

Sonic Team Racing Crossworlds — Coming Soon

Sonic Racing games hidden gems amongst the quandary of kart racers on current systems. The latest entry, Sonic Team Racing Crossworlds, is a promising return to form after the mixed reception of Team Sonic Racing in 2019.

Mafia: The Old Country — 2025

We now have a release window for Mafia: The Old Country and a new trailer. It's coming in the second half of 2025.

Dispatch — Coming Soon

Featuring the talented Laura Bailey and Aaron Paul, Dispatch is an upcoming animated/superhero game from Adhoc, a team containing certain employees from the dissolved Telltale Games. There is no release date for this game as of yet.

Ōkami Sequel — Coming Soon

A title that no one ever thought would get a sequel is finally returning. Ōkami received universal acclaim from critics when released in 2006, but it was a commercial failure. Over the years, Ōkami has gained a resurgence in popularity and has a strong cult following. Serving as the penultimate announcement of the night, Ōkami is returning for a sequel. There is no confirmation of a release date, but more news will come soon.

Intergalactic: The Heretic Prophet — Coming Soon

I can not comprehend my surprise and delight at this announcement. Naughty Dog has long been my favourite game developer, and they are the company that initially got me into gaming due to Crash Bandicoot. Rumours went around that the company was working on a brand new IP unrelated to anything they had done before. I had my fingers crossed when Geoff Keighley stated there was another announcement for the night. To my utter delight, Naughty Dog is back with Intergalactic: The Heretic Prophet. The game has been in development for the past four years. Neil Druckmann is directing it, and the music is composed by Oscar winners Trent Reznor and Atticus Ross. I am beyond excited to hear more about Intergalactic in the future.

Round-Up

There has been online discussion about the amount of time the Game Awards dedicate to game trailers and announcements rather than the actual awards. The Game Awards feel saturated with advertisements and reveals. The event is an award show and should be a celebration of the very best games of 2024. Whilst the announcements at 2024's Game Awards were not disappointing, I would have liked to have seen more time dedicated to the industry's developers, actors, composers, artists and incredible talent.
