PS Plus Essential Games of April 2025

As March draws to a close, it is time to unveil the next batch of PS Plus games available to all members in April. Sony revealed these games earlier this morning, and they are available to add to your library on April 1st.

PS Plus Essential Games: April 2025

  • RoboCop: Rogue City (PS5)

  • The Texas Chain Saw Massacre (PS4 & PS5)

  • Digimon Story: Cyber Sleuth - Hacker's Memory (PS4)

RoboCop: Rogue City

RoboCop: Rogue City is a first-person shooter set in the same universe as the original films and is considered canon to the franchise's timeline. The game takes place after RoboCop 2, and Peter Weller, the starring actor in the series, reprises his role as Alex Murphy for the game. The game takes the movie's futuristic world of Detroit and brings it to the video game. At the time, the game received generally positive reviews, and it got a decent-sized player base back in 2023 with an estimated 2.7 million active game sessions at one time, according to developer Teyon and publisher Nacon.

Rogue City was the first RoboCop console game in 20 years. The last entry was by Titus Interactive and came out on PS2, Xbox, GameCube, and PC. Fan response is what draws me to this game. It went down decently with critics, but the fan response was more favourable than the critical reception. I do not think anyone had the biggest expectations for this game because movie-licensed video games have a rocky reputation. However, I am happy that RoboCop: Rogue City is coming to PS Plus this April.

The Texas Chain Saw Massacre

On paper, this game is everything I could want. The Texas Chain Saw Massacre is one of my favourite films, and playing through a story that is canon and faithful to the original masterpiece sounds amazing. Published by Gun Interactive, the same people behind Friday the 13th: The Game, which sadly had its online modes shut down at the end of last year, Texas Chain Saw came out in 2023. This game is multiplayer-only; you and your party control four different characters as they try to survive the sadistic cannibals haunting you. Kane Hodder, who was the stunt double for Leatherface in Leatherface: The Texas Chain Saw Massacre III, reprises his role for the game, as does Edwin Neal, who played the psychotic Hitchhiker in the original 1974 film.

The Texas Chain Saw Massacre is a game I have not played before. I am not a huge online multiplayer gamer. I prefer single-player experiences, but I like local co-op games when I have someone with me. Because I am such a huge fan of the 1974 film, I will cave into my issues with online multiplayer and give the game a go when it comes to PS Plus.

Digimon Story: Cyber Sleuth - Hacker's Memory

This game is a sequel to Digimon Story: Cyber Sleuth, which came out in 2015 for PS4, PS Vita, and PC and later ported to the Nintendo Switch. Fortunately, whilst both games take place in the universe, you do not have to play the first game in order to understand and enjoy the narrative of Hacker's Memory. In this game, you play Keisuke Amasawa, a young boy who has his EDEN account stolen. In the world of the game, EDEN is a highly advanced VR and web service. Someone steals Keisuke's EDEN account, and the game's narrative revolves around you getting it back and exposing the culprit.

I have no prior experience with Digimon and little knowledge of the JRPG genre. This game received mixed critical reception, and its sales did not meet Bandai Namco's expectations. However, if you are a JRPG fan and want to get lost in a narrative that is said to be more than 50 hours in length, then Digimon Story: Cyber Sleuth - Hacker's Memory is coming to PS Plus this April.

PS Plus Essential: February 2025

A new wave of PS Plus Essential games also means that you only have a few more days to claim this month's PS Plus games. March's PS Plus games will no longer be available on March 31st.
