Logitech G309 Gaming Mouse Review

The Logitech G309 is the latest from Logitech and is designed for gamers who prioritise performance, precision and comfort. With a compact design and advanced features it aims at a wide range of genres, from fast paced shooters, to real-time strategy and everyday use and productivity. So let's take a look at what makes the G309 tick. From design, to performance and everything in between.

The G309 features a very sleek and modern design, the combination of matte and semi-transparent gloss as well as its symmetrical shape really give it a very solid and premium feel. The shape in particular I feel has been extensively designed to fit comfortably in the user's hand providing sufficient support for long gaming sessions and (while designed primarily for right handers) I feel would also be perfectly suited to left handers too.. I have played a lot of hours on the G309 by now including some pretty lengthy sessions and not once have I experienced any discomfort. The included textured grips add a level of grip that most gaming mice don't, which just adds to your precision and control as well as feeling a little nicer in your hand. These grips seem to be becoming more and more popular these days, and I for one am a huge fan. They really do make a world of difference.

Logitech has a bit of a reputation for durability and the G309 is absolutely no exception. The materials here feel extremely sturdy, and can withstand both the rigours of daily gaming, and being in a household with a 3 year old, as my 3 year old has routinely dropped the G309 albeit on carpet, but it's still flawless. The positioning of the side buttons is perfect for my hand size and (id suggest) smaller, if you have huge hands, the buttons might feel a little far back on the side of the mouse, but i'd say that would be a very handful of people. The side buttons, while placed relatively well, don't feel great at all to press. They feel kind of mushy and spring loaded and just not a great experience to use at all.

The G309 has Logitech's HERO 25K optical sensor, this is the same sensor I believe that's in the G502 X Plus mouse and has a max sensitivity of 25,600 DPI and up to 40 G's of acceleration making it extremely fast and responsive. In terms of gameplay this translates to excellent response times, making your reflexes almost superhuman in FPS games and super accurate in RTS or Puzzle games etc. The added ability to change the DPI on the fly is perfect for shooters allowing you to seamlessly switch between high precision for sniping and speed for close quarters combat.

Battery life is pretty good, at around 300 hours over 2.4GHz or 600 hours via Bluetooth. Making the G309 an excellent option for a travel mouse. I recently travelled to Japan for a few weeks and used the G309 across multiple devices and am still rocking the same battery I was before I left with no signs of stopping any time soon. When used with Logitech's Powerplay mouse pads however is where the G309 truly shines. I personally haven't tried this feature, but from the information given to me it is a truly excellent combination. The standard way to power this mouse is via a removable AA battery, which adds a significant amount of weight to a lightweight gaming mouse such as this. However, with the Powerplay Mouse Pad you can leave the AA battery out and experience unlimited wireless power through the mousepad to keep the mouse going indefinitely without that extra heft thanks to the supercapacitor which holds just enough power to make sure the mouse can keep going when lifted from the mousepad for those brief moments while gaming etc.

Overall, the G309 is a great mouse, the only real downside for me personally, is the side button feel when engaging. They feel solid and premium, but just don't have that tactile feel you'd expect. That aside, I found it very hard to find fault with the G309. Whether it be for your setup at home or some gaming/ productivity on the go, the G309 is excellent value for money.

Do yourself a favour and give the G309 some consideration next time you're in the market for a new gaming mouse.
