Logitech G Pro X 2 Review

The Logitech G Pro X 2 is an almost perfect blend of style, comfort and performance. Designed for the needs of serious gamers, particularly those involved in competitive FPS titles such as COD, Fortnite etc. The G Pro X 2 excels in delivering pinpoint accurate audio and versatile functionality. Let's dive a little deeper into why I believe the G Pro X 2 is one of the best headsets on the market, and an excellent choice for just about any gamer looking for a new headset

Let's start out by talking about the comfort of the G Pro X 2. Comfort for me is a critical factor in any good gaming headset. I've tried “audiophile quality” headsets in the past, and while they sound incredible, if they're not comfortable, they're not a winner for me. So the fact that the G Pro X 2 is incredibly comfortable already stands it in good stead before even hearing what it sounds like.

The memory foam earpads while covered in soft leatherette (something I am not always a huge fan of) provides a soft, comfortable fit around your ears. The openings are big enough that your ears shouldnt touch the padding, while creating a nice snug seal to improve noise isolation thanks to that leatherette. The downside to this leatherette is the fact that your ears do eventually get quite hot and sweaty during longer gaming sessions. The G Pro X 2 however does do this better than a lot and despite being leatherette, you’ll find your ears will overheat less than a lot of competitors made of similar materials.

The fully adjustable headband is padded and very comfortable, and the adjustability allows you to customise the fit to suit your individual needs. Regardless of the size and shape of your head, these will fit you just about perfectly.

Out of the box, the G Pro X 2 is immediately stylish. This headset that you've probably seen on the head of one of your favourite streamers at some point, looks great. The white variant is particularly striking and adds a point of difference over a lot of other gaming headsets without being overly loud. The magenta option on the other hand, while still looking great, might be a bit loud for some.

The conveniently placed “on headset” controls allow you to intuitively adjust volume, but the mic, and switch between connectivity modes with ease. This makes changing things on the fly very easy and convenient.

The removable mic is a feature that I think is somewhat underrated. We all love the convenience of a flip to mute mic, and in a dedicated gaming headset, it's probably a better design choice, however due to the connectivity ( which we will talk about a little later) and the style of the G Pro X 2 the ability to remove the mic and convert it into a very “lifestyle” headset is one that I am a huge fan of.

Constructed of high quality materials, this is one of the more premium headsets I've held in my hands, the lightweight aluminium loses no points in feeling strong, while the headband is reinforced with steel to ensure durability. While making the headset look, be and feel hard wearing, they add very little in terms of excessive weight which further enhances your overall comfort.

Now, on to probably the most important aspect of a gaming headset, audio quality. Audio accuracy is paramount for gaming, in particular, FPS gaming. The G Pro X 2 stands out in this regard. Equipped with advanced Pro-G 50mm drivers, it delivers a wide range of frequency with distinct clarity. The default settings out of the box are pretty good, while also sounding just a little bassy. Overall though, it is one of the best sounding headsets at “factory settings” for me.

Positionally, the audio accuracy is among the best on the market. This is particularly critical in identifying enemy footsteps, gunfire and environmental noises, and is a large part (in my opinion) in why so many streamers choose the G Pro X headsets and what gives them the edge over other competitors. I often found myself hearing things my teammates couldn't, knowing what lies around a corner that my teammates had no idea was coming and it just gave me a real tactical edge over those I was playing with/against.

Aside from the frequency response and pinpoint accuracy, the G Pro X 2 headset comes with DTS Headphone: 2.0, instead of particularly helping with the finer details of the audio, DTS does a really good job of delivering on the scale of the audio you're listening to. It makes things like explosions feel big and impactful, and gives everything a sense of depth and distance.

I said we would, so let's talk about connectivity. The G Pro X 2 while being primarily a dedicated gaming headset, its connectivity does allow for other world uses and connection to a multitude more devices.

Supporting both wired and wireless audio via a 3.5mm audio jack for wired and a stable and lag free 2.4Hz connection for wireless via the USB dongle. In addition to the 2.4Hz, we have bluetooth connectivity. This is what enhances the headsets versatility, allowing you to seamlessly switch between gaming and listening to music, taking phone calls and even connecting it to your TV for media consumption such as netflix (TV support required)

Due to the design of this headset and its ability to connect to your phone via bluetooth, you wouldn't look out of place wearing this in public such as on a train, at the gym or even on an aeroplane. All you'll have to do is remove the removable mic and away you go.

Speaking of the removable mic, let's talk about how it performs. We all know effective communication is critical when gaming competitively or with friends, and the microphone here is designed with that in mind.

Featuring Blue VO!CE technology, which includes advanced features such as noise reduction, compression and EQ presets. This same technology used in a bunch of standalone microphones ensures that your voice is transmitted clearly and concisely whilst retaining your voice's natural sound albeit slightly more bassy than in person. The mic has a cardioid pickup pattern focused on capturing your voice while blocking out a lot of background noise and is a style of pickup used by podcasters etc to deliver the most complete version of your voice and allowing those you're playing with to hear you with accuracy.

Battery life on the G Pro X 2 is also rather impressive. Definitely not the best I've tested with some headsets coming in at over 100 hours, but the 50 hours of continuous use will get you through multiples of even the longest gaming sessions.

Overall, the Logitech G Pro X 2 is an excellent choice for any gamer looking for A-grade audio accuracy, comfort and versatility. Its excellent sound quality, stylish design and advanced features make it one of the best headsets I've tested and probably my favourite had it not been for the other headset I am currently reviewing, the Astro A50X. So keep an eye out for that too. The G Pro X 2 however, definitely shouldn't be slept on. While its prices are on the higher end of the scale, it's worth every cent.
